news

Barcar.com rolls on. We've been receiving new homepages from our members and the traffic to the site now measures almost 38,000 visitors. Apparently everyone is having a good time because Barcar has poured out about 12,000 free drinks! We have added another cocktail to the Open Bar, The Boilermaker and in the upcoming months there will be more, so stop back and get a refill.

Barcar.com will also be introducing some new features in the upcoming weeks, including a guestbook that will allow our visitors to tell us what they like about Barcar.com and what features they would like to see added to help strengthen support of our online community.

We will also be implementing a Barcar.com store. This e-commerce feature will allow visitors to purchase Barcar.com branded merchandise and in a Associates program with Amazon.com, select from a variety of Barcar.com recommended books and compact discs for passing the time on those barcarless journeys. If you have any favorites you would like to share with the community, send them along with your comments and we will include them on the list.

In other news, it's come to our attention that many Staten Island commuters are quite frustrated as of late, in the wake of the New York Waterways decision to suspend Staten Island-to-Manhattan ferry service.  If you've ever traveled via commuter ferry, whether in the San Francisco Bay area, across the English Channel, up the Hudson from Jersey, or just across the harbor from Staten Island, then you've experienced the same camaraderie and social intercourse that we so enjoy on the barcar.  Suspension of ferry service is yet another attack on the commuters' quality of life.

As commuters, we must band together!  Pass the word along …we must keep the petition engine going strong to let our voices be heard.  Barcar.com is a great way to provoke and promote activism, so keep signing those petitions to save the barcar.  And if you're commuting quality of life is being assailed, let Barcar.com know about it. Send us your petition; we'll post it and help you track the response.  Let's all help generate more support on behalf of the entire commuting community!

Commuters Unite!
